Health is the most vital essence of our life. If there is no health, then nothing seems exciting. Would you want to go river-rafting if you have a fever? Or would you like to go to a party if you have a headache? I think not. However, I am not explicitly saying that these symptoms like a  fever or a headache will whoosh away as they are part and parcel of our urban lifestyle now. But eating healthy food will definitely protect you to its optimum level.

My Favourite of all quote: Prevention is better than Cure

So, here it goes. I have narrowed down to 5 food that is really great for health and also does not taste that bad.

1. Yogurt

Yogurt or curd is a type of dairy product and one of the major sources of Vitamin D, calcium, potassium, magnesium and the list goes on and on. Being an important supplier of calcium, magnesium, and Vit D, it helps to build strong bones. Potassium repairs and maintains crucial organs like heart, kidneys to work properly. So, yes, you should have yogurt or curd daily because of its vast nutritional properties. Enough of science talk.

Focusing on how one should intake yogurt. The raw sour taste may be a thumbs-down for many. Fret no more. There come several types of flavored yogurt like mango, strawberry, vanilla etc. It’s yummy and healthy.

If you choose to pick raw yogurt, you can mix it with cumin powder to give an edgy taste. You can also add green chili to spice it up.  Just give it a try and let me know.

2. Apple

An Apple a Day keeps the Doctor away

This is another important one. One which is considered as the god within the fruit community. One which cleans away all your health problems if you regularly have it. It is the best fruit to increase your blood cell count. There have been plenty of research done on the health benefits of Apple and if I start counting the benefits, this post length will reach Moon. However, this fruit is full of antioxidants and fiber. Antioxidants help to keep heart diseases at bay. Also, it helps to nourish the brain and the immune system. Fiber, on the other hand, helps to reduce blood pressure and maintains blood sugar level.

And who does not want that extra glow on our skin? Just an apple a day keeps the dullness away.

3. Nuts

Nuts come in different shapes and sizes. Be it elliptical almonds, shelled pistachios, crescent-shaped cashews or brain shaped walnuts. Other types of nuts are pine nuts, macadamia nuts, brazil nuts, hazelnuts and the list goes on. They are mostly brown in colour.

Nuts contain all the good fats you need. It is very healthy but you need to keep in mind that you don’t overeat because it can make you fat then. Anything in moderation is good. Whenever you over or under it, it causes an imbalance. Now coming to its benefits. It contains proteins, fiber, omega-3 fatty acids and are rich in antioxidants. Just like apple, these delicious nuts can also help in diabetes and blood sugar level control.  Omega 3 fatty acids help to control heart problems and blood pressure. Again, everything in moderation is good, too much is never the solution.

Okay! These are not as tasty as the oily junk foods that you intake nearly every day(or is it every day?). But they are so rich in proteins that if the protein is money, then these are the Bill Gates. It is a bad PJ but you get my point, right? It is that proteins are the building blocks of our body. It helps in cell repairing and maintenance. If you are injured, it is the protein that protects you from further infection and becomes your friend in need. So don’t neglect it.

And if legumes and beans are cooked properly, it does not taste bad at all. There are a variety of beans you can try before settling to your favorites. So, go to youtube and search for some delicious recipes of legumes. You can cook the one that suits you.

5. Oats

When you need fiber, this is where your search ends. Period. It contains a type of fiber called Beta-Glucan. It keeps you feeling satiated and full for a longer time. It also helps in proper bowel movement.

And no doubt, it also helps in weight loss. It helped to shed quite a few kgs. Since then, I have always been a big fan of the Oats Master ;). Hope it does to you too. Again, oats may not taste mouth watering delicious but if cooked properly, it can be a one-tasty-meal to look forward to every morning.

So, these are my top 5. There are many and much more like berries, pears, orange, tomato, carrots, milk etc etc. Choose wisely. Your body will thank you later.
Last but not the least, you need to have the burning desire to stay fit and healthy, otherwise you will keep on getting back to your old bad habits. If you love junk foods, I am no one to command you to stop having it or reduce the amount. I can only suggest you though. But at the end of it all, you need to possess a strong will to switch to good habits of eating healthy.

So, all beautiful people, go get the shopping basket and start buying healthy foods mindfully with your hard earned money. Once these food are in your kitchen, you won’t be able to neglect and rot them. This is my funda and mostly it works.
