Today I am going to talk about ASTHMA  – one of the most prevalent respiratory disorder of this generation. Unfortunately, I too suffer from mild asthmatics and as a result, I can understand what a pain it is.

As per my understanding in biology, it is a chronic disease in which the bronchial tubes in lungs gets congested with mucus fluid. So, no air can pass through the bronchial tubes which can be life-threatening if left untreated.

People who have asthma knows that it comes with an extra baggage of allergy. During my childhood, I was ignorant of this allergy problems and never went for an allergy test (reason- the test back then was painful ) I might have treated my asthma from the scratch back then. Anyways.

Asthma has many types of symptoms like

  1. Coughing
  2. Loss of breath
  3. Chest tightness
  4. Wheezing

Coming to some of the common causes of asthma which are

  • Children can develop asthma from their early ages which if left untreated will deteriorate the condition more and can become incurable at a later stage.
  • Other types of asthma are due to pollution in recent times. Such people get agitated by the indoor allergens like house dust and outdoor allergens like pollens.
  • Stress also plays an important factor- again due to the busy lifestyle that we have got accustomed to. It is also the cause of other physiological and psychological disorders.
  • Cigarette smoking also causes breathing problems, asthma being one of them. It even causes lung cancer. So, next time when you think of smoking, remember the side effects(though I know you won’t).

Now, let’s get to the cure for asthma.There are various ways in which you can tackle asthma, some of which are temporary but if it is followed regularly, they can give you long term relief.

Home Remedies

Okay! We all love easy DIY remedies for all our problems- and that is cool because A- there is no side effect and B- it is really cheap. I know. I am a lover of home remedies. High five!

So, let’s head over to our home remedy segment.

  • Mustard Oil

I owe to mustard oil when my chest area gets congested or during cold and cough. It’s my mother’s secret recipe to a healthier me. Well, this wonder oil definitely does the wonder for sure.

Just massage your chest and neck area with warm mustard oil (don’t heat it too much as it can become extremely hot to touch and you may ultimately end up burning yourself). Use a generous amount and keep on messaging for 5-10 mins. You will notice the difference instantly.

  • Ginger

Ginger has analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties which, makes it a great take for curing asthma. It has the power to detoxify the lungs and clear excess phlegm.

You can use ginger in different ways- ginger tea, grated ginger in milk, or ginger juice with honey. These are all effective ways of curing asthma.

  • Figs

Figs have high expectorant properties and I love figs as it is so powerful. Soak figs in water overnight and drink the water and the figs in the morning. Continue this for a week or two at least to see results.

  • Omega 3 fats

These fats are good fats. And it also has anti-inflammatory properties which help in relieving the bronchial tubes. Omega 3 fatty acids are abundant in fish oils and nuts. You also get omega capsules nowadays in medicine shops easily.

  • Warm milk

Milk has a stock of kind of therapeutic values one of them is relieving asthma. So drink up warm milk at night. You may not like its taste or smell but it has lots of nutritional values in it.

There have been controversies for long that milk worsens asthma symptoms. But trust me, I have been drinking milk day and night. All it does is soothes me and my body and not deteriorates anything of any kind.

  • Deep Breathing

And none but not the least, it’s deep breathing. I should have mentioned it earlier, though. Whenever I have found myself out of bounds in terms of medicines or other remedial treatments, I practice deep breathing for as many as 50-60 times. It immensely helps. Try it!


You must also visit an allergy specialist or immunologist if you are suffering from severe asthma. There is no better way than consulting a person who knows his job.

Again, I cannot emphasize it enough but you need to start early. If it is not treated early enough, it can become a lifelong disease. Your lungs are as important as your heart so don’t neglect it. There are many types of immunotherapy treatments like allergy shots or inhalers or medicines. Your doc will recommend the best treatment possible for you.


And, always keep your inhaler with yourself especially when you are traveling or spending a lot of time in AC. I have made this mistake many times and I suffered badly for it too. Hope you won’t repeat it.
